Named for the lifeguard tower in just towards the ocean from entry, Tower 42 is a remodel of an existing 7,000 restaurant in Playa del Rey, CA. Hamilton Architects was responsible for a remodel touched every surface of the building and required the design and or selection of all furniture, fixtures and equipment. In addition to all of the furniture, fixtures, and equipment – we also designed the signage and the logo for the restaurant. The previous black on black color scheme not in keeping with the “sophisticated beach” image the new owners had in mind for their restaurant. We created outdoor eating and gathering spaces that enhance the indoor/outdoor lifestyle of Southern California and allow the sun to stream into the dining spaces. As a nod to the sustainable food menu, portions of the existing roof were recycled as the bar top and table tops for the private dining rooms. All photos by Clair Barrett.
